Waxhaw Water Tower Art Contest
The Waxhaw Water Tower has been an iconic feature to the Town of Waxhaw for 80 years and continues to be a focal point for our community. For decades, the tower’s height has been a reference point used by people coming together and it’s shadow still casts along open celebrations, concerts, dining, and festivals.
Galleries, shops, taverns, and restaurant encircle this historical landmark and the Waxhaw Arts Council is celebrating the tower’s 80 years, with an art contest.
SHORT RULES
The Waxhaw Arts Council Art Contest celebrates the Waxhaw Water Tower’s 80 years.
Waxhaw Arts Council members will be judging drawings, paintings, and digital works submitted by Artists in three age groups:
18 yrs and over
13 – 17 yrs old
Pre-K to 12 yrs old
Each category will have 1 Winner (prize) and 3 Honorable Mentions
Prize: the Winner from each category will receive a t-shirt with their artwork on the front.
FULL RULES
ELIGIBILITY: Open to everyone Pre-K and up and residing in the US.
(CLOSED to members of the Waxhaw Arts Council and Sponsor(s) as WAC will be judging.)
SUBMISSION: Each person is allowed to submit one piece of artwork meeting the following criteria –
- 2D Painting, sketch, or digital representation of the Waxhaw Water Tower
(Photographs will not be accepted, however, photographs that have been altered as part of a painting or sketch will be accepted as long as the photograph is an original work by the artist submitting.)
- The person submitting must be the creator of the artwork and has the rights to submit their original artwork. Children’s work must be submitted by a Parent or Guardian.
- Artist chooses their style choice: realism, impressionistic, abstract, etc.
- Submitted image of the artwork needs to be 150dpi or greater and 1500×1500 pixels or greater
- Artist must include a name and email address (email will not be published or shared). If submitting for a child, please submit their name and age. Only their first name and age will be used.
DEADLINE: Submissions will be accepted from 12:01AM on May 1st, 2021 until 11:59PM on May 31st, 2021. Email artwork submission to owahay@gmail.com with a subject line WAC Contest and include your name, age, and email address.
18+: By submitting, you are stating that you are 18 or over, a US resident, and agree to the rules of this contest.
Pre-K to 17: The Parent or Guardian submitting acknowledges their child is under 18 and that WAC will only use the their child’s first name and the overall age group to which they are entered, the child is a US resident, and the Parent or Guardian agrees to the rules of this contest.
JUDGING: Artwork will be judged by the members of the Waxhaw arts Council and Sponsor(s) based on the following:
- Creativity
- Style
- Representation of the Waxhaw Water Tower
- There will be 1 Winner and 3 Honorable Mentions
PRIZE: The winner will receive a t-shirt, sponsored by the Waxhaw Arts Council and Owahay Studios, Ltd. Co., in their size of choice, with their artwork printed on the front. (There will be no cash or prize substitutions.) No prizes will be issued for Honorable Mentions.
ARTWORK USE: By submitting artwork, you are giving the Waxhaw Arts Council (WAC) the right to display the work on it’s website and social media platforms, including the artist’s name (in the case of a minor the first name and age group only). WAC will not sell or use your work in any other way and the artists maintains all rights and copyright to their work.
WINNING NOTIFICATION: The winner will be contacted and verification of acceptance will be made by June 5th. Should the winner not accept by 11:59PM on June 5th, the 1st Honorable Mention will become the Winner, notification will be sent, and acceptance reply by 11:59PM on June 6th. The winning Artist and work will be announced on June 10th. Non-winning submissions will not be notified.
